Abstract:
After a year when many of us have been staying on the ground, it is tempting to think that aviation climate impact is not an urgent issue. The presentation will show that aircraft emission is likely to become critical in a few decades. But changing from kerosene refined from crude oil to new sources of energy has the potential to mitigate the emission growth and eventually eliminate most of them. The presentation will give an overview of five ways to drastically reduce the net heating caused by air travel. Turbine engines fueled by liquid hydrogen be shown to be a feasible solution with a low resource consumption. The challenges ahead are outlined and a roadmap
for technology development shown.
