FLOW M.Sc. thesis among winners of Vattenfall Award for best Master Thesis 2019

Published Nov 22, 2019

Robert Braunbehrens, a student who did his M.Sc. thesis at the Fluid Physics Laboratory, KTH Mechanics has been awarded first place and 25 kSEK in the Vattenfall award for the best master thesis within area of energy 2019 competition at the KTH Energy Dialogue 2019.

Robert's master thesis, supervised by Dr. Antonio Segalini (STandUP for Wind and Linné FLOW Centre), is entitled “Wake meandering and its modeling”. In the thesis the linearized model ORFEUS (developed at KTH) is used to simulate wind turbines in large wind farms. The dispersion model of Taylor (1921) has been applied to include wake meandering to the developed model through an analogy with turbulent dispersion, providing a new model based on the physics of the wake meandering. The results of the thesis have also been published in the Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics ( www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167610519305458 ).
