FLOW researcher coordinating EU project on air trafic optimisation

Published Aug 08, 2022

EU has granted funding for the RefMap project 'Reducing Environmental Footprint through transformative Multi-scale Aviation Planning’. The total funding is 5 M€. The project is coordinated by our colleague Ricardo Vinuesa and involves 10 other partners from Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and UK. At Department of Engineering Mechanics, Evelyn Otero and Elias Zea will also be involved in the work.

The mission of RefMap is to develop a digital service aimed at quantifying the environmental footprints of air mobility for airliners and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) at a "multi-scale" level, where single-trajectories (micro) and the flow traffic of multiple vehicles (macro) are optimised to minimise their environmental impact in a wide range of communities.
