Summary: The impact of Artificial intelligence (AI) is exceptionally broad and virtually affects every sector of society bringing large opportunities and significant risks. The authors of this newly published Nature Sustainability piece propose the "Earth alignment" principle to guide AI development and deployment. The Earth alignment principle actively seeks to leverage AI’s capabilities to drive sustainability transformations across human activities while constraining developments that impede this goal. Francesca Larosa, Marie Curie postdoctoral Fellow at FLOW, co-authored the piece together with others from civil society, industry, academic and government organisations
