Abstract: Originally rooted as finite volume solver in CFD, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ has evolved into a comprehensive multiphysics platform capable of tackling highly complex applications. In particular, the software has rapidly expanded its solid mechanics and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) feature sets to reliably model tightly coupled, highly nonlinear phenomena.

In this talk, we will cover the core concepts of (partitioned) FSI simulations, common modeling approaches, and practical tips for numerical FSI stabilization. I will then highlight the latest additions to the FSI and solid mechanics feature sets in Simcenter STAR-CCM+, focusing on updates from the past two years. Finally, I will present the typical end-to-end user journey for two advanced FSI applications, set up entirely within Simcenter STAR-CCM+ from CAD to final solution.
