Abstract: Turbulent separation bubbles - confined regions of separated flow near a solid surface – are known to exhibit velocity and pressure fluctuations in wide a range of time scales. In this talk we will specifically consider their large-scale, low-frequency behavior, which has drawn significant interest from the research community in the past few years. We will describe the low-frequency unsteadiness in both low-speed and high-speed flows, explain our current understanding of the phenomenon based on linear analysis, and discuss future avenues of research on the topic.
